How to get there:
This mountain is on the island Tysnes. Easy to reach by ferry from Halhjem, south of
Bergen. The ferry should go to Våge.
After exiting the ferry, make a left in the first traffic circle. Drive past the signed
road access to Tysnessåta. From this point continue about 500 meter, just after crossing
a small creek, turn left entering a small parking area right next to a war memorial.
This location is N60.05028, E005.63086, elevation about 30 meter.
Route:
Cross the road and observe a sign saying Hovda 2 km. Continue on a forest road
800 meter, do not fork right. A sign for Hovda 1.2 km forks left, leaving the
forest road. Follow this trail uphill, some red sticks serve as trail markers.
The trail ascends essentially in a creek
for a short while, the rocks may be
very slippery here. You will reach a small col, the trail forks right here, a sign
saying 0.2 km. The summit has a trail
register, a summit sign and pretty good views. Comments:
After climbing Vestrefjellet, I drove across
to the trailhead for Hovda. Good parking next to a war memorial.
I started walking at 1040. Nice trail, but slippery in one section with rocks and water.
I arrived at the summit at 1115. Nice view of the fjord. Leaving at 0920, I was back at
my car at 1150.
