How to get there:
This mountain is easily accessable from Otta, located on E-6 about 100 kilometer north of Lillehammer.
Take Hwy. 15 left when reaching Otta. About 2 kilometer from E-6, a smaller road signed Dale, forks right.
Follow this road through a residential area, then eventually gaining more elevation and
heading back more easterly. You will find a toll station (NOK 100 in 2022), then continue climbing
until you reach the trailhead at location N61.80079, E009.49609, elevation about 980 meter. There
is a small turnout where a few cars may park parallel to the road. A signed trail begins
immediately across the road.
Route description:
Follow the well marked trail to the summit.
Trip Report / Comments:
I had been to Gråhøa earlier in the day and I still
had time for visiting this peak, another mountain with more than 500 meter of prominence.
I started at 1630 and arrived at the big cairn 1645.
I spent 5 minutes there, then
descended in 10 minutes. The rain had stopped, but the valleys were filled with
clouds so the views were limited.
This mountain has a steep side to the north-east overlooking the Gudbrandsdalen valley.
It appears completely flat on its west side.
Overall, the name Haldorpiggen seems
highly inappropriate. (Piggen means a sharp, vertical appearance.)
