Tribunal of Iberia 1194

Issues To Be Discussed:

• Discussion about the recognition of the Iturriaga covenant as a member of the Iberian Tribunal.
• Electing the representatives for the Grand Tribunal of 1195.
• The Reconquista. The activities of an islamic sorcerer, who blatantly used magic in mundane battles between the Christians and the Moors. (I was working on this one for my Saga. I'll detail it.)

• A Wizard's March against Panaga for the crime of Diabolism.
• Discussing the problem of Hermetic books found in mundane hands (begun in 1186, in the Amphoria Saga; a message was posted).
• Conflicts and grievance between covenants (about vis sources, spying, making trouble, etc.).
• Judging various transgressions of the Code.
• ... (other ideas are welcome)

Other Activities During the Tribunal:

• Presentation of discoveries by Bonisagus magi.

Work To Be Done

• Find or create the covenant where the Tribunal will be held. In ToH:Iberia, this place is described as (quote): "...to meet at a Covenant in the foothills of the Pyrenees. The previous Praeco lived there before he entered Final Twilight." From what I have seen so far, most of the covenant from the people in the list are in spring. If nobody from the list volunteer their covenant to play the host (I hope someone will), we will have to create it. If someone volunteer, we could ignore that bit about the former Praeco.

  Jan previously mentionned Paul Williams as someone who have a covenant that would fit the bill. Are you interested, Paul? Even if you do not want to participate directly, a good description of your covenant would be very helpful.

  Joseph also volounteered his covenant (Pugilista) for this, even though it's in a different timeline. We'll see if we can work things out.

• Have a couple of additionnal covenants represented at the Tribunal. Ideally, this would be from the list. Otherwise, we will have create some. Even if we have to create them, they could be controlled by some of the people on the list, who would decide their vote (some sort of play by e-Mail game, at a more "strategic" level).

  Jan suggested (and I agree) that we could play the informal get together before the Tribunal and talk as NPCs to our players to get their most likely decision on some cases (or to get their vote by bribery). We decide beforehand how the NPCs vote (may be modified by bribery/begging from the players side in the informal talks).

  We then set up the formal proceedings and "replay" to all of our groups the final votes and events connected to them. Thus we assure continuity without having to fudge or fix.

• For each NPC covenants, detail the magi present, their opinions about the issues discussed, their goals and objectives. How will they vote in various situations? What are their capabilities in case of Certamen? Also, each covenant and/or magi could have a list of things available for trade (new spells, vis, books, items, etc).

  We would at least need the names and basic description of the most important figures of the Tribunal, plus a couple of others. I will probably develop at least four or five magi from NPC covenants (mostly Barcelona, since I'm supposed to be the Praeco). At a guess, I would say that the total number of magi attending the Tribunal should be around 40, in about equal number Pro/Against/Neutral in regard to the Reconquista. So, anyone interested in creating some of those are welcome.

  Who wants to be the Head Quaesitor?

• Specifics about the Reconquista. Battles fought, notable personalities involved, magical interventions, and so on. For now, I don't have much on this on, so there is a lot of work to be done. Feel free to work on it, even if you are from a different timeline. Past occurences and future battles are always a good way to spark the imagination.

  For example, one of the companions in my Saga had such an encounter with an islamic sorcerer and a djinn. The Quaesitoris have been called in, and should at least report their findings to the Tribunal.

  Any other such occurrence could be used when we will discuss the (touchy) subject of the Reconquista, and how the Order of Hermes should act.

  There should at least be a case of a Flambeau being accused of breaking the Code by using blatant magic in front of mundanes, or a Jerbiton helping the mundanes in battle. I guess there could be at least 5 problems related to the Reconquista, in addition to the general discussion about how involved the Order of Hermes should be in this situation.

• For the Panaga issue, detailing some of his discovered crimes. Maybe a calendar of the various crimes he commited (and where), so we can run short stories involving him?

  Jan posted a good description of Panaga, and a good story idea involving him during the Tribunal.

• Preparing a handful of conflicts between covenants, to be judged during the Tribunal. This could be about contested vis sources, spying on someone (mundane or magical), making trouble with mundanes near a covenant, etc. Jan said that he would have a vis source conflict ready. Anyone else is welcome to post a problem, even if they are not within the same timeline.

• A formal letter for the magic items contest, from the hosting covenant, would be great if done in character. It would give the exact conditions and limits of the contest. That will of course depend on the hosting covenant.

• Possibilities for some short stories during the Tribunal. Jan suggested a more detailed murder plot in his post on Panaga.

Topics to be solved

1.

Last call for the hosting covenant. If you want to do it, say so. If not, I'll begin creating it. You have one week to manifest yourself...

2.

I'd like all participant to confirm their implication. This way, we'll know how many covenant are present at the Tribunal.

3.

Who wants to play the Head Quaesitor? I'm already the Praeco, so it would be better if someone else does it.

4.

I'm beginning to develop the magi of Barcelona. I'd like to know if anybody else is doing (or will do) the same for the other important NPC covenants like Jaferiya, Estáncia-es-Karida, and Duresca.

5.

For each issue that will come up at the Tribunal, we'll need a description of what actually happened, what is reported to the Tribunal, and a description of the protagonists. I'm already doing at least two issues (books found in mundane hands & problems caused by an islamic sorcerer). Jan is doing the Panaga issue and a vis conflict. Again, tell me what you'll be doing.

And last but not least, timeline coordination. That will be the hardest thing to do. Maybe we should just prepare a description of the issues and how they should go, then let everyone play it when they're ready. I'd like your opinions.
