In April 1193 the magus Tartatius, follower of Verditius, comes to Provence from the covenant of Verdi on Sardinia in the Tribunal of Rome, Domus Magnus of house Verditius, to find a covenant where he can settle, or most probably found a new one.
In Perpignan he meets Aeiliendée, hedge wizard and follower of Merinita, who joins him in the search for a site for a new covenant.
The most important purpose of Tartatii travel is not the covenant, but the search for pieces of a magical chess set. Tartatii pater found one black pawn near St. Paul de Fenouillet in 1189, and he knows it is magical, but he cannot explore the magic without more pieces. This quest also gives Tartatius conciderable funding from Verdi for the foundation of a new covenant.
The original owner of the black pieces was a battle wizard of the eighth century, who refused to join the Order of Hermes and prefered to make a deal with demons for exile in Hell. He returned in 1188 and arrived near the site where this black pawn was found. The wizard is inspired by a story from
which was originally found in the Berkeley archive. The chess set is spread all over Europe.
We assume that Doissetep and Val Negra exist as in 3rd edition, so that Doissetep is in Aquitania and dominates the tribunal, and Val Negra is lost in time and space, but used to be Domus Magnus Flambeaux and located in the Pyrenees.
