How to get there:
The town Guzman is located quite close on the north-east side
of the mountain. Guzman is less than 2 hours from Guadalajara.
From Guzman, drive to location N19.63243, W103.52936, the mountain road
starts here. This road requires a high clearance vehicle, preferably
with 4WD. Drive to the locked gate at location N19.58126, W103.61064, elevation
near 3730 meter. Park here.
Route description:
Continue along the road until it makes a first switchback (left turn) to
make the final climb to the antenna installation on the top of the ridge.
There is a small building here. Make sure to take the trail on the right
hand side of this building. It should descend a bit in the beginning.
This trail traverses to the big col before you reach the mountain.
Continue to follow the obvious trail that begins in this col and first
contours =a bit left.
You will zig-zag up a pretty wide slope, then the
route forks into two variants. The easiest and perhaps most straightforward
turns right and crosses the top of the rocky ridge up on your right. Well
marked. The other variant climbs the slope directly uphill, staying below the
ridge.a Either way, you will soon arrive at a nice summit. Comments:
I climbed this peak solo since my partner Adam had been here before and felt
effects of the thin air. We had arrived from the US and Norway only 2 days earlier.
My climb took 1:55 up and 1:25 down. I started at 0700, had a pretty
long rest on the summit.
