How to get there:
The town of Aines is a good point of reference. Drive east on a good Hwy. to Campo, continue a bit more east, then turn north up the valley directly on the east side of the mountain. There is parking for a couple of cars (do not block access) right next to a locked gate on the road that will be the first part of the route. This location is N42.403944, E000.531111, elevation about 1420 meter.
See here For a quick summary of the peaks climbed on this trip.
Route::
Start by walking past the gate and follow this very good forest road uphill. Stay on this road, ignore a few side roads that fork right. You will see a second gate (closed) directly ahead just as the road makes a bend out (left). A small, but clear trail (cairns) fork directly uphill (left side of a boulder). Follow this trail as it climbs to reach a grassy shoulder. The trail continues, there are cairn markers, making a pretty long, ascending traverse. This will get you to the main crest. The main summit ridge is visible across, but in order to get there, one must first go south. Here, the trail turns sharply left and traverses, pretty flat, going south on the east side of a minor hill called Turbonet (2346m). After a small descent, the trail curves around to reach the south end of the main ridge leading to the summit. There is a pretty good trail all the way to this summit, but it has a couple of slightly rougher spots that makes the overall classification (YDS) class 2.
Comments:
I drove from Aines after breakfast and was ready to walk from my car at 0945. It was already getting quite warm, I sensed that this day would be hot. Easy to follow the road, and completely obvious to see the small trail head uphill where the road turned out (and had a second closed gate). I made good progress up this route and also the continuation in the open terrain higher up, was nice. The route followed a pretty natural system of broad ledges and ramps to connect with the main crest. From here, an easy stroll to the south end of the main summit ridge. About 20 cows were just at the base. The good trail continued to the summit, I was there at 1220, so 2:35 up. There is a second summit point with some solar panels quite close. The two points are very close in elevation, so better visit both. I took some well deserved drink and a pretty long rest, 25 minutes. Mobile service, so sent a message to Heidi.
Descending the same route in 2:05, the last part along the road being almost unbearably hot.
