Monte Sirente

How to get there:
Locate Autostrada A-25 going east to Pescara. Exit north onto SR-5 at Collarmele. Fork left off SR-5 and continue to
Secinaro. Continue along the nice road climbing west of Secinaro to signed parking on the right hand side
of the road at location N42.16094, E013.63727, elevation about 1150 meter.
Route description:
Cross the road and start up the forest road that runs on the right hand side
of the building. At the first forest road fork, go left.
Shortly thereafter, (a few hundred meter) the trail (white amd red markers)
forks 90 degrees off to the right. There are no more issues after this, the remaining
trail to the summit is well marked. The trail climbs about 600 vertical meter (half the climb)
in the forest. It finally breaks out with a view of the rocks at location
N42.14189, E013.63095, elevatio about 1770 meter.
The second half of the climb runs nicely uphill while traversing right. First, up
to a ridgeline, next across and up a big grassy field, then finally a bit more
of a traverse before climbing to the main crest.
What remains now is a short climb to the summit plateau,
then across a few smaller humps before locating the summit cross.
Comments:
I had breakfast with Heidi this morning, so off to a somewhat later start.
I parked at the trailhead around 0915 and was ready to hike by 0930.
This climb consists of two equal parts, each with 600 meter vertical gain.
The trail up the forest seemed never-ending. Very nice to break out of
the trees and see the first cliffs.
I took a 5 minute photo-stop at this
location.
The remaining climb was pure delight.
I pushed a bit to make the
summit in 2 hours, but as it turned out,
the summit was a bit further away, so
arrival there at 1135. I took pictures
and enjoyed the good views until
1150. The descent took 1.5 hours. Back at the hotel already by 1500.
