Difficulty: YDS class 1
Climbed June 3. 2017.
Information:
How to get there:
There is an alpine access road that runs up the east ridge (from the west
side of the town Vilach) to about 1700 meter of elevation. This road is a toll
road and the charge in 2017 was 17 Euro.
There is a large parking area where the road ends. This is at location
N46.59277, E013.71150, elevation about 1730 meter.
Route description:
From the parking area, a
small dirt road will take you all
the way to the summit. This road is marked with numbered poles, the
numbering starts around 165 and counts down.
The summit has two high points, near the church (to your left) and all
the way to the right where the cross is located.
This latter location is
a few meter higher than the church area. Comments:
We had already climbed 2 peaks this day and Dobratsch would be our third peak
having more than 1000 meter of prominence for the day. We hoped to complete
this "tourist peak" before the afternoon rain would arrive.
We left at 1410 and arrived at the summit at 1510.
The summit has a nice view-circle,
however, the weather was closing in and rain was
about to begin.
Lots of other people along
the road that lead to the summit. Leaving at 1520, we walked back in fog that
eventually turned into rain. We were back at 1610, so altogether a 2 hour trip.
This completed our first day of hiking in Austria.
Our next objective would be to find a good base camp for our next goals,
Spitzegel and Latschur.
