Information:
How to get there:
See Volcan de la Deseada. Route description:
This summit is located along a nicely curved ridge. A more distinct summit, but 2 meter
lower, is Pico Birigoyo connected via a shallow saddle to the north. The trail climbs
Montana Barquita in several zig-zags directly from its key col on the south. This
col is also easily connected to the main Ruta de los Volcanes trail.
Alternatively, one can climb the two peaks directly from El Pilar. In this case, follow the
paved road to the main crest (a slight uphill a few hundred meter from the recreational area.)
From here, go right /south) following a wide clearing in the forest, sort of like a ski slope.
This will get you to location N28.60963, W017.83571,
where a warning sign has been posted.
Take the trail that this sign does not recommend, it was perfectly fine and I exited that way.
This trail will lead you up the main crest, then in many zig-zags to the summit
of Pico Birigoyo. This trail continues directy to Montana Barquita. The trail can be followed
further south across several smaller tops to join Ruta de los Volcanes just north of
Hoya Negro.
