How to get there:
This is an island located outside of Uskedalen in Hardanger.
One must secure a boat ride to and from this island.
Contact somebody living in Uskedal or possibly on the island of Skorpo.
Route:
We arrived at Skorpo in the small harbor near Steinaneset, (north-east).
From there, follow the road that crosses Eidet, then runs south. Just as this road
bends and descends to the sea, turn right on a tractor road serving the abandoned
farm Skorpo. The route is marked with red T from here, you should pass just on the
left side of the farm buildings. This trail now leads to a summit point with good views
and a cairn. However, this is NOT the highest point on the island.
To reach the highest point, located about 350 meter to the south-west, backtrack to
the meadow, then head west,
passing north of lake Skorpo, a short and easy walk.
There is a fallen trigonometric marker nearby.
Comments:
My friend Kjell had made contact with a man living on the island. He invited
Harald and me to come along.
We were picked up in the small Uskedalen harbor shortly before 1000.
The boat ride took about 10 minutes.
We were on our way by 1005. The ascent to the
view point summit took about 40 minutes.
We next walked across to the true highpoint,
arriving there by 1100.
Good views also from here. We were back down by 1200.
Many thanks to Kjell for organizing this!
