Location: North 39.38411, West 031.22416 (GPS on the summit)
Difficulty: YDS class 1
Climbed: July 25. 2014
Information:
Here is quick summary of my climbs in the Azores islands.
How to get there:
This peak on the south coast of Flores, is a fine view point in good weather.
Take Hwy. ER-1 from Santa Cruz das Flores along the coast, heading south.
As this road crosses west and runs more inland after the village Lajes das Flores,
this hill will dominate the landscape on your
left (south) side. A number of quite good
and new (2014) roads have been added recently. These roads was not yet marked on
current (tourist) road-maps. Follow such a road as it climbs the hill, the road crosses
near the summit on the south side. This is a loop road that can be accessed from the
main Hwy. in several different points.
Find parking next to the road, near the very distinct hill-top.
Route description:
Head up the short grass slope to gain the summit.
Comments:
Heidi and I drove by here after having visited the island high-point.
We had fog, but this hill still seemed sufficiently prominent that I
wanted to check it out.
The hike to the summit is a short stroll uphill.
