Information:

How to get there:
From Steinkjer, drive E-6 north to Grong, continue north on E-6 to Gartland. Take Hwy. 775 (left) signed for Brønnøysund to the community Høylandet. Continue north on Hwy. 17 towards Kongsmoen, a small community at the end of a long fjord. Shortly before this location, turn left and immediately park behind a building at location N64.86368, E012.42398, elevation about 35 meter.
Route:
Follow the forest road as it climbs uphill from the trailhead. This road eventually turns into a track as it as it first turns left then right while reaching the top of the first hill. The trail/track descends, meets another trail, turns more left and descends more into Tordalen where a small trail forks right to a cabin. An old bridge crosses the river here at location N64.87589, E012.39676, elevation about 160 meter.
Cross this bridge and continue west ascending slightly. It is more cumbersome to follow the river, while the terrain a bit higher (near 200 meter) is much better to hike. As you gain more open terrain and meadows, turn left (south) and stay around elevation 200 meter. You will locate an old track that heads south keeping your distance from the river. Cross the southern tip of Jofinnhaugen and descend on an old path to the north end of the small lake at elevation 228 meter.
You are now at the end of a broad, but rugged ridge that extends about 4 kilometer all the way to the summit of Kjøringvassfjellet. There are several cliffs that run across the route, however being aware of this, one can find a quite reasonable path without too much trouble.
The summit is marked by a few rocks. There is nice view all around, in particular south-west to lake Mjøsundvatnet.
Comments:
I did this trip together with my friends Gunn and Erik, they live in Steinkjer and I enjoyed their hospitality.
We left Steinkjer at 0800 and were ready to hike by 1000. We arrived at the old bridge after 45 minutes and had a stop for some lunch just before reaching the beginning of the actual ascent. We arrived at the summit at 1415. The weather was now quite windy, but no rain. Leaving the small cairn at 1430, we had a nice return hike reaching the car at 1800.
