How to get there:
In summer, this peak is easily accessible from Hwy. 2442 connecting Gausdal with Valdres.
Drive to Holsbru where the road crosses the river Dokka. Go north on a smaller road (toll?) and
access to the east from Dokklia.
In winter, the same approach may be used, but starting from the end of the road that are open
in winter. This is somewaht beyond Værskei, perhaps as far as Kittilbu. Ski from here.
Route description:
This report describes a longer ski route starting at the mountain farm area Åltjern, where
my mountain home is located.
First ski to Værskei, about 15 kilometer. In Easter there are good prepared ski tracks.
From Værskei, follow the ski track going towards Kittilbu, but when you have descended to
the first pretty large meadow, fork right and cross the road to its east side. From here, you
may have to break your own trail. Ski directly north-west in open and flat terrain
until the south end of
lake Hornsjøen (about 7.5 kilometer). Ascend the hill heading uphill. The summit is
partially open (few trees) and offers a good view.
Comments:
I did this trip with my son Pål Jørgen. We started around 1000. This peak is among
the very few that might still be within reach in a day trip from my mountain home. We broke trail
from Værskei. Unfortunately, my skis had the wrong vax and this slowed us down
considerably. Finally, at the summit by 1445.
We had a good rest before returning at 1500. The skiing
back was easier, we followed our track, but deviated to use a better route at the very end, near
Værskei. Getting there at 1645, we had another 15 minute break buying soft drinks at the
small restaurant by the parking lot. resuming around 1700, we skied in good tracks back home
arriving at 1830.
