Comments: This mountain is very well known for its Observatory of Northern Lights. The observatory was the first in the world for conducting research on the northern light. It was in full operation from 1899 until 1926. Later destroyed by the Germans during World War II, it has now been largely restored and operates as a tourist hut for trekkers, it is quite a popular destination for people in Alta. The key to the hut can be checked out at the Alta Museum. A more complete overview of the history of the observatory can be found here.
