How to get there:
From the city of Åndalsnes, follow highway RV64 (Molde) eastbound along Isfjorden. The road curves around the Isfjorden bay, and heads westbound. Near Uraneset, 14,5Km from the south side of Nebbetunnelen in Åndalsnes, turn right when you see the "Skorgedalen Skisenter" sign.
Similarly, if coming from Molde, drive towards ¶Aring;ndalsnes, then turn left at the "Skorgedalen Skisenter" sign.
After 500-600m, turn left towards "Rauma Skisenter". Pay toll at the entrance of the road (NOK 75 in 2014, no cash, only credit cards.) and drive up to the Skorgedalen parking area (3,3Km) Park here, location N62.59737, E007.64450, elevation about 310 meter.
Route description:
From the parking area, you will see a small hill (looking west), called Kjerringhaugen. A DNT hut, Skorgedalsbu, is located on the top and there is a signed trail from the parking area. Follow this until you are in the small col separating Kjerringhaugen from the mountain, turn right here and proceed uphill along a faint trail. Proceed pretty much straight uphill, possibly even a notch left of the fall-line. The objective is to gain the ridge above you, do not head directly for the summit that may be seen further right. Once on the top ridge, follow this (right) all the way to the summit. This is a rather delightful ridge walk with no difficulties.
Comments:
After a full day of hiking on Saturday, I was kindly invited to visit Kai and his wife Grete, it turned out that they owned a nice mountain hut in Skorgedalen, precisely where I had planned to go.
I arrived around 1700 on Saturday and was treated with a delicious ptarmigan dinner and quality red wine. On Sunday, after a nice breakfast, Kai and I started out around 1015 in order to climb nearby Skarven. We arrived on top about 1145, the weather was nice, but right at the top a bit windy. Descending back down, we soon ran into Grete that had ascended quite high despite starting a bit later. We had a leisurely hike back down, arriving around 1310. A cold beer at the terrace made the outdoors perfect. Later, we had another nice meal - Fårikål (Norwegian lamb with cabbage).
A very nice weekend came to an end shortly before 1800, when we said goodbye. I drove back to Molde and caught the 2140 flight to Bergen.
