How to get there:
From Bergen, drive E-16 to Voss. In Voss, take Hwy. 13 to Granvin. Pay attention
and exit right (to Granvin) immediately before the long tunnel that leads to
the Hardangerfjorden bridge.
In Granvin, follow the main road to location 60.52613, 6.72125. (approximately 1.2 kilometer
after exiting to Granvin. Turn left here and take the leftmost of the two roads.
Continue to 60.52909, 6.73421. Turn right here, continue uphill to location 60.52905, 6.74594, elevation
near 225 meter. Find parking for 4 cars on your left. This is the trailhead.
Route:
About 100 meter more uphill along the road, a local forest road forks right.
Follow this road uphill about 1.3 kilometer to a road fork. Take the right fork
gently downhill, then across the creek. The road curves sharply right and the trail
heads uphill between trees to your left. Follow this trail uphill until you
enter more open terrain with fewer trees. The route tends more directly south as it
continues to climb. Higher up, you will see the rounded summit slightly left. Continue
into a shallow bowl, curve left and ascend the final slope to the summit. The summit is
directly on top of the steep south face of the mountain.
Comments:
I did this trip as winter trip leader for a group of 13, organized by the
mountaineering club (DNT) in Bergen. We left Bergen shortly after 0800 in private
cars and were ready to ski around 1045. The group made good progress and we arrived at
the summit (after a few brief stops along the way)
around 1315. Good views to Eidfjord,
but perhaps most impresive, the
Sørfjorden view. Almost
directly down, we could see the Hardanger bridge,
one of the largest such bridges in the world, from here it looked rather small.
Everyone was happy to
reach such a nice viewpoint, but also looking forward to
a great run down, a nice layer
of powder on top of a nice crust. We were
back at the cars before 1500. Thanks to co-trip leader Arild as well as to
all participaants for a nice day.
