How to get there:
From Bergen, drive Hwy. E-16 to Voss (about 100 km), then continue past
Vinje (traffic circle) to Oppheim and onwards down the tunnel near Stalheim to
the Nærøydalen valley. Locate the sign for Jordalen going left and
take this road soon entering a spiral tunnel that climbs into Jordalen.
Continue to location N60.90243, E006.73138, where you fins parking on your
right side. parking fee NOK 70 (2023), payable by Vips. The elevation here
is about 630 meter.
Route:
Head up the road forking left (most likely not plowed).
Follow this for about 1.5 kilometer.
Next, continue towards the large bowl on your left.
Ski up this bowl, gradually turning right, then ascend a slightly steeper
section to gain elevation between two slightly higher hills, in order to continue
essentially straight uphill to gain the summit plateau. The highest point is reached
shortly before you get to the cairn.
Comments:
I climbed this peak as a trip leader for people attending the annual, national
mountaineering meet. Due to Covid-19, this was the first physical meeting since 2019.
We left Voss around 0830, and were ready to ski shortly after 0930.
We had a long, sit down break
about 150 vertical meter below the summit, then arrived on
top around 1300. Similarly, we had a long break just below the steepest section while 3 people
skied back up to have a second run down. Just as we all had sat down,
a small avalanche got
started up on the side slope. Quite a nice sight. This small slide may have been triggered by
our 3 person starting back uphill, or it could have been a completely random event.
