How to get there:
Locate Hwy. 660 connecting Eidsvåg with Åndalsnes. More precisely, find the part of this road that connects Eresfjord with Vistdalen via a pass that is about 500 meter at the col. As you drive up from Eresfjord, the best place to park is a turnout on your right hand side just as the road makes a left curve. This is about 2 kilometer before the highest point on the road.
Park here at location N62.66535, E008.07166, elevation about 370 meter.
Route description:
Head directly uphill, pass by a mountain hut and cross under some power lines. Higher up, the terrain becomes nice and open. Set course up the valley that goes north to Breidskardet (928m), between Breidfjellet (1103m, left) and Jamtetind (1101m, right). The terrain is very easy to walk, pretty much grass all the way. Follow the grass in order to avoid rocks and gradually ascend more left of the creek in order to gain the NE ridge of Breidfjellet at approximately 950 meter of elevation. Follow the ridge as it climbs more steeply just above 1000 meter, then more gently to the final hump. The quite slender cairn is located slightly below the highest point.
Comments:
I had already climbed Åbittinden and decided that another short climb could be done before dinner with Kai and Grete in their mountain hut in Skrorgedalen. I left at 1325 and summited at 1455. After a brief rest, I descended back to my car arriving there at 1615.
