Welcome to the CBRG

The Computational Biology Research Group (CBRG) provides computing support for bioinformatics analysis in the Medical Sciences Division at the University of Oxford. An account with the CBRG gives automatic access to a large number of molecular biology computing packages and to numerous biological databases.

We are based at the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology and at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine. Full details can be found on the Contact details page.
CBRG is part of the Medical Sciences Division.

Bioinformatics analysis tools online:

A wide range of bioinformatics programs are available online via EMBOSS Explorer.
You will need a molbiol username and password to use these tools.

Other web tools available include: BLAST, MASCOT, BASE and SRS   (see full list).

Phylogeny training course.
This one-day course will introduce you to the various tools that are available for phylogenetic analysis of data including construction, editing and visualisation of alignments, and tree reconstruction and interpretation. In addition, the practicals will be interspersed with lectures to provide a thorough grounding in the theory underlying these tools. Please note - the course is free but is only available to CBRG molbiol account holders

Bioinformatics analysis tools available online.
We have recently made a wide variety of bioinformatics analysis tools available to molbiol account holders via this web site. The EMBOSS suite of over 100 bioinformatics tools is now available online using EMBOSS Explorer. In collaboration with the Central Proteomics Facility (CPF) we have added a Mascot server to the web site for the analysis of proteomics data. A new BLAST server has also been added to the web site. Finally, a new bioinformatics FAQ page to guide users to the correct analysis tool is available.

Old molbiol machine to be switched off later this month.
We will stop access to the old OUBC service enterprise.molbiol.ox.ac.uk on 31st March 2005.
If you haven't moved to the new replacement, orac.molbiol.ox.ac.uk, please do so as soon as possible. To transfer, please log in to enterprise in the usual way and follow the on screen instructions. This will move all your data over from 'enterprise' to 'orac' and prompt you to change your password. If you have problems please contact us at genmail@molbiol.ox.ac.uk
Don't forget we offer bioinformatics training every month on the new system and more specialist training courses are on the way...
