This list identifies and ranks the 50 mountains on islands in Europe
with the largest primary factor. The primary factor is also called
the "prominence" of a mountain in the USA.
Islands are sometimes European with respect to geographical and political
criteria, sometimes mainly (or in extreme cases only) because of historical and political reasons.
For completeness only, see the political list for islands that have NO (geographical) RELATION to Europe whatsoever, but where the territory is part of a European country. That is, there is no independence and the island population participates in the corresponding European country political elections.
For islands, the primary factor of its highest mountain will therefore equal the elevation (above sea level) of that peak. However, an island with a low saddle connecting two peaks may well have two (or more) entries on the list. Note that one could discuss if the Peloponnese Penisula should count as an island, since it is separated from the mainland of Greece by a (very narrow) sea level canal. We adopt the policy to not consider such a man made change to nature, it is therefore not on this list.
This list is based on data compiled by Petter Bjørstad, Eberhard Jurgalski, and Vasja Kavcic.

I appreciate that use of these data is acknowledged including a link to
my main mountain page.
Two stars behind the rank means that I have climbed it (25/50).
