How to get there:
This description starts from ur base camp at Nordre Illåbreen.
See the description under Storgjuvtinden for further details regarding
the access. Route description:
This route starts from a base camp at about 1800 meter on Nordre
Illåbreen just below Nåla on Skardstind. Ski right across
the glacier towards Nedre Tverråbandet. Actually, the course should be
set directly for the side of the ridge coming down from Store Tverråtinden,
that is, just left of Nedre Tverråbandet. Leave the skis when the ridge
steepens and walk up the slope in order to gain the main ridge. Then follow the ridge
up to the left, first to a small point marked with a cairn where the ridge turns more
to the right and becomes more level. The ridge is easy t follow and soon you arrive
on the highest summit. The difficulty is YDS class 2. Note that the glacier may be
quite different later in the season. Comments:
I did this climb with my son Pål Jørgen, age 13, and my friend Arnt.
We started already at 0650, the weather was cloudy (looks like fog) until we arrived
at the summit, but after about 10 minutes there we had a dramatic and memorable
clearing and within minutes we had a very beautiful view in all directions.
The ridge continues to a subsidiary summit (that is lower), this traverse looks
more difficult, but is supposed to be quite easy as one can keep right when the
ridge steepens towards the end.
