How to get there:
This peak may be climbed via a pretty short route starting from the col on Hwy, SP-5, west of the peak. Alternatively, exit the main Autostrada E-35, at Rivera, about 12 kilometer north of Lugano. From here, one can take a cable-car up to 1500 meter of elevation. The cable car is 29 Swiss Franc round trip as of summer 2022.
Route::
A quick summary of the peaks climbed in Italy 2022.
From the top of the gondola, just follow the big path (small, rough road) that heads towards the obviously higher part of the mountain. Follow this with several zig--zags as it climbs to an antenna installation. Shortly beyond this, you arrive at a refugio. Continue past this hut, the trail is still big, but not a road anymore. The route will take you past a small summit, Motto Rotondo, then up the final ridge to the summit.
Comments:
I took the gondola in order for this trip to be less driving and (hopefully) and early return to Heidi.
I started hiking around 0950 and arrived at the summit about one hour later. Unfortunately, the summit had attracted a cloud and visibility was very limited. After about 10 minutes, I returned to the refugio. They accepted Euro, but no credit cards. A cold beer seemed like an excellent idea and Euro 5 did the trick.
The trail head came back out of a cloud and I was soon there catching a ride down to my car.
