How to get there:
This peak, accessible by car, is located north-east of the city of Bassano. Two different roads (both long and with sharp curves) access the mountain from its south side.
Here is an overview of peaks climbed at my Europe 2012 summer trip.
Route description:
The mountain has two summits of almost equal height. One is a large war memorial, the other, a short distance north has been fenced in and is officially not accessible. My GPS weakly supports that the war memorial summit may be slightly higher.
Comments:
We were driving from Sella Nevea after an unsuccessful attempt on Jôf de Montasio. It was tempting to visit this peak along the way.
From the parking area, a set of wide stairs led up to the circular war memorial. I was there at 1645.
The summit further north is somewhat more obscure. An obvious road leads towards it. However, this road is blocked by a big gate extended by a fence both left and right. The gate has signs in several languages saying that it is dangerous? to proceed. A pretty clear trail runs left on the outside of the fence. This trail becomes more narrow as it gets squeezed between the fence (on the right) and steepish cliffs to its left side. As I walked along this narrow path, I noticed a parallel trail on the inside of the fence. Keeping the warning about "dangerous" in mind, it seemed to be only a question of a few more meter before the outside trail definitely would be more dangerous than the trail on the inside of the fence, in fact it looked completely safe. This observation had been made before me as I noticed several places where one now easily could slip below the fence. I followed suit and soon walked on the safe, inside trail. This lead directly to the high point area, a pretty flat area with some signs of previous military? activity. I arrived at this summit around 1700.
I quickly retraced my steps and returned to the general parking area, our next stop would be a hotel at the west side of lake Garda.
