How to get there:
A good point of reference is the small community Hosteland, located north of Masfjorden. To get there from Bergen, drive north on E-39. Just before E-39 enters the 4 km long Eikefet tunnel, there is a choice of route. Forking left onto Hwy. 570, then connect from Masfjordneset to Duesund by (cable) ferry. This is a scenic option. Alternatively, continue on E-39 passing the two fingers of Masfjorden, then an uphill tunnel to the intersection with Hwy. 571. Turn left here, descending on the north side of Masfjorden to meet Hwy. 570 near Hosteland.
A route to this mountain starts directly from Hwy. 571. Drive north from Duesund or south from E-39. There is a turnout on the fjord side of the road near location N60.86831, E005.34591, elevation about 45 meter. This location is about 2.6 kilometer along Hwy. 571 after the road exits Eikemodalen and starts running next to the fjord.
Route description:
From the parking, walk 130 meter along the Hwy. (direction Duesund), you will then see a sign next to the road pointing uphill to the mountain farm Bergviksetra. Follow this path uphill. In the very beginning, this is an old forest road running up the small valley. However, fairly soon, the trail leaves this path and exits right into the forest. This exit point is well marked with a stick. The trail continues more steeply uphill. There are markers, small red and white sticks, along the path. Eventually, this trail crosses the main ridge and descends to a creek. Leave the trail before descending and head uphill along the ridge. There are some minor trails that may be followed on the right hand side. Do stay on top of the main ridge as much as possible. Follow this line (staying slightly right when needed) all the way to the summit.
Comments:
I decided that I had time for this mountain after climbing Austefjellet. It took me about 1:10 to ascend, some bush and some snow caused minor delays. Very nice views all around. I descended back down mostly following my route of ascent, in about 50 minutes. This concluded a very nice day, my electric car continued its first long range test and arrived back home (after some 230 kilometer) with a safe margin of charge remaining.
