Information:

How to get there:
Drive north-west on Hwy. 340 from Kahului. This road becomes narrow and partly narrow (single lane in several places). Thus, this drive will take some time despite a fairly short distance. The mountain is overlooking the tiny village of Kahakului, there is an obvious parking on your right before the road makes the final descent. This location is N20.99850, W156.54568, elevation about 100 meter.
Route:
Take the trail from the parking across the saddle, then head directly towards the middle of the face. A vague trail ascends through the right part of the trees. Ascend here, then traverse right to locate a small ridge that can be climbed rather easily. Higher up the slope eases, follow trails through the high grass to the summit.
Comments:
I noticed this rock when driving around the north-west coast about 2 weeks earlier. Looked like a nice objective. Today looked good, certainly no rain. I drove to the trailhead (from Kihei) and parked around 1140. A guy and 2 girls descended and came to the parking just before I was ready to leave. He with shorts and a bare chest, they both barefoot and more or less bikini style! What! I had read that long (protective) pants was recommended. They deserve credit, I could not see any sign of blood or scar on their legs.
I started around 1250 and made the summit in about 20 minutes. The rock was solid, some loose soil in between. Overall, a nice scramble, YDS class 3. Good views both south along the coast as well as north. The tiny village of Kahakului located directly below. I spent about 5 minutes on top, then descended the same way in about the same time.
