How to get there:
See the description for Castle Peak. Route description:
The shortest route to this peak is to reverse the last part of
the route described for Castle Peak.
You arrive to the key saddle for Kon Shan (this is the saddle that
defines the prominence of the peak.)
Continue up the small road that climbs while turning right. Just after
the road has turned into a path and before it descends, turn right and
cross over to the trail that follows the highest ridge. Follow this trail,
fork left to descend to a small local col. From there, ascend the slope that
climbs the first, lower summit. This trail has a high bypass (left) to
connect with the final slope to the summit of Kon Shan. The summit has
a nice summit marker. Comments:
We had arrived to the key saddle after descending from Castle Peak. From here,
a paved road descends to the city below and connects nicely with a light rail
service that will get you back to the MTR.
It took us about 30 minutes to ascend Kon Shan from this saddle. The weather
was nice and warm and a good rest with water and Cola at the summit, seemed well
deserved. We returned the same way and descended back down to the Light Rail
station. Travelling via Hung Hom, we were back home by 1700.
