How to get there:
This peak may be climbed from different starting points. Jordalen is certainly a possibility. This report describes a ski climb starting from Vikafjellet. From Bergen, drive to Voss and continue to Vinve. Turn left here onto Hwy.13 and drive past the ski area Myrkdalen and up the steep climb to Vikafjellet. Continue to location N60.92385. E006.44820, elevation near 975 meter. Find parking off the road here.
Route description:
Ski south west towards the area called Grungen, Grung valley? You need to cross here and this is best done by contouring around staying at near 960 meter. Continue east in the very distinct valley with the lake Dueskardvatnet. Climb gently until near location N60.9186, E6.5914, nar elevation 1100 meter. You are now directly below the summit. Locate a nice ramp that ascends south, this is not the small valley, but a higher ramp (left) closer to the (steep) mountain. Follow this ramp uphill until it ends at a corner where you turn left onto a pretty level wide slope south of the summit, Finish the ascent by easy skiing to the summit cairn.
Comments:
I did this trip with my friend Eric. We started skiing around 1030. Unfortunately, recent rain followed by cold temperatures had chenged the snow surface into hard crust. Not ideal for skiing. However, above 1100 meter there had not been rain, rather snow and the skiing was much better. Unfortunately, this was only the very final part of our ascent. We arrived at the summit by 1340 so 3:10 up. The return ski was somewhat easier and we made it back to the car by 1605. The weather was very nice, not a single cloud. We did have some cold wind at the summit, otherwise quite calm weather. It stayed pretty cold all day, minus 10.5C when we started. However, near mid March we certainly felt the warming ´rays of sunshine. Thanks to Eric for good company.
