Jordalen, Norway.
Difficulty: (YDS) class 2
Climbed May 10. 2015.
Information:
How to get there:
Drive E-16 to Voss and continue towards Gudvangen. After the 2 downhill tunnels near
Stalheim, pay attention in order to find the left turn signed Jordalen. This road
turns back, then starts the steep climb up to Jordalen. A new tunnel is under construction
(2015), it is sheduled to open in 2016. Continue past the Jordalen farms, higher up
the road runs just south of the mountain Nosafjellet. The farm Nosi is located here and
this is as high as the road runs in winter. Find parking that do not block any traffic.
This is the (winter) trailhead, location N60.90370, E006.73736, elevation about 650 meter.
Route description:
Follow the road as it runs about one kilometer up the valley and crosses
the river on a bridge. Contine geently uphill with the steep Bakkanosi on your right hand
side. Gradually curve right as you continue the gentle climb. Note that this route is hit
by avalanches earlier in winter. Stay down by the river if this is an issue. Continue uphill
more east as you climb to the col north of Vardafjellet. There is a cairn in this saddle.
This location is N60.93172, E006.79395, elevation about 1330 meter. Turn left (north) and ski
gently uphill in order to cross a bit east of point 1476. Continue along easy terrain to the
broad ridge that curves north-west and reaches the summit.
Comments:
I was on my way to Ulvik, the forecast was pretty good and I decided to
visit this peak. I left my car at 1200 and enjoyed good skiing up to
the col on the main crest, then easy onwards to the summit, arriving
there at 1430. After about 10 minutes, I started back down along the
same route. The skiing was quite good and I returned to my car at 1555.
