How to get there:

A good point of reference is Skarsmoen on the road from Odda to Røldal. This location has a Joker store as well as a bus stop. (Bus to/from Bergen). Location N59.93554, E6.58732.
Route description:
Take the small road (Espelandsvegen) going north right next to the Joker store. Follow it passing the farm Espeland, then to Træstøl, where the road ends. Continue up the valley, north-west to the single house called Øvstestøl. From here, go west to the pass that separates Skjeggesnuten from Sauanuten. Both peaks are easy to ascend from here. If you continue through the pass, then downhill, you will reach the DNT self serve hut Sauabrehytten.
Comments / Trip report:
I did this climb before breakfast starting from Sauabrehytten. I had been a winter trip leader (guide) for a party of 8 crossing the Folgefonnen glacier. We had started from the alpine skiing area above Jondal in the morning of May 17th. That day we skied to the DNT hut Fonnabu. The next day, we skied across the highest point of the glacier, then onwards to the DNT hut Sauabrehytten.
I got up early and left the hut at 0520. Summit at 0550. It looked as if the summit is about 75 meter north of the cairn. After a brief stop and some photos, I left around 0600 and skied back down to the hut in about 15 minutes.
Breakfast was agreed at 0730. We left the hut around 0900 and skied to Øvstestøl and Træstøl. From there, about 4 kilometer walk on the road back down to Skarsmoen arriving at 1400. Bus at 1700 to Bergen.
