How to get there:
One needs to get to the lower part of Eksingedalen. There are 2 options: i) Drive E-16 to Dale, just 2 kilometer after Dale, turn left onto a more narrow hwy. signed for Romarheim. Continue on this road until the roadfork where the road to Romarhein enters a long tunnel in order to connect to Modalen. Here, the right fork road continues further into Eksingedalen. The distance to here from Bergen is approximately 93 kilometer. Alternatively, ii) From Bergen, drive Hwy. E-39 Towards Sogn, fork right in Romarheim and take the road signed for Modalen. When you arrive in Modalen, turn left and continue through the tunnel to Eksingedalen. This distance is about 88 kilometer and the road is better (less distance on a single lane road).
From this road fork in Eksingedalen, continue up the valley, passing Nese before arriving in Flatkvål. Turn right onto a small road serving the church. Continue on this road, across the river then up into the entrance of the Sørdalen valley. There is good parking at the end of the road. This location is N60.77814, E005.94832, elevation about 300 meter.
Route description:
Head directly into the valley, the path will soon cross a bridge to the right side of the river, then ascend the hillside as it continues south. After this initial climb, the route enters more gentle terrain that may be followed south, gradually ascending, in order to reach the hut called Nesstølen. Nesstølen is located near 600 meter of elevation about 3 kilometer from the trailhead.
Ascend the slope west of Nesstølen, stay left (south) of the drainage. The slope eases a bit above 1000 meter. Curve sightly right (north) and ascend to the gentle summit with a very well built cairn.
Comments:
I did this ski climb with my friend Eric. We started at 1015 and skied up the valley to Nesstølen. From here, we had a very nie ski ascent in the sun, much appreciated since it was still pretty cold about -18 C. We were at the top near 1245, very nice views all around. We left around 1300 and were back at my car before 1400. The skiing down to Nesstølen was very good. No other ski tracks on the mountain.
