Information:

How to get there:
From Bergen, drive E-39 north to Romarheim. There is a signed road going right. This road serves Modalen, but is also a cross road towards E-16 and Dale.
Continue up the Modalen valley (Do NOT enter the long tunnel that connects to Eksingedalen). After somewhat more than 10 kilometer, locate the signed road that forks right. The sign reads Nygaard 6km. Drive this road, take the 3rd. road forking right, shortly before the road has its final uphill towards lake Steinavatnet. This road runs up Kvanndalen in summer, in winter this road is open only to serve a few local vacation huts. In winter, the road ends near location N60.90131, E006.03098, elevation 477m. There is parking for several cars here.
Route description:
Follow the road into Kvanndalen, take the left fork where the road forks. In summer, follow the trail that is marked on the map all the way to the summit. In winter, ascend easy slopes on the right hand side of the slope near 700 meter of elevation, then head more left (north-west) in order to enter the distinct valley that runs north-east, that is on the west side of point 1003m. This valley is narrow, but provides good access in the winter. Continue uphill until this valley becomes wider just before a small lake. Continue the gully directly ahead, stay right (straight) where one may turn left. When you exit on top of this gully, continue while gently ascending left. This will bring you to a few small summits that compete with the actual summit. Laser measurements have this at 1203.9 meter. Continue north along the main crest to the actual summit, laser measurements have this at 1204.4 meter.
Comments:
I climbed this mountain with my friend Eric. We started at 1000 after a 0800 departure from Bergen. The forecast called for some sun, however the day was mostly clouds with a few short sights of the sun. We skied up the road, then continued up the gully. There were no signs of our ski tracks from the previous Sunday.
We reached the summit by 1245, it was colder and somewhat more windy up here. Good views in all directions. We next skied back to the competing summits and prepared for downhill skiing there. Leaving at 1300, we had a nice run back down to the car, arriving there at 1400.
