How to get there:
This is the northernmost RIBU in FRance, located in Alsace, near the town of Mulhouse.
One may drive on a good paved road almost to the summit. A general area where one
may park a car is quite close to an old Chalet,
at location N47.904476, E7.102784, elevation about 1350 meter.
Route:
A big trail/road starts uphill. Take the right branch. This continues as a trail curving
around the top to reach a shallow saddle. From here,
a rather fancy entrance
to the (air traffic control) radar dome starts. Follow this, then exit left to
reach the current highest natural ground.
It seems that it is also permitted to visit
a circular viewing area in the radar structure itself.
A tall cairn/monument is located slightly downhill. This is a war memorial. One may visit it and take the
return trail to the parking from there, making the trip a small circular hike.
Comments/Trip Report:
We had started our drive home. Last night spent quite close to this summit. Thus, we drove
directly here and visited the top before a long drive to Hildesheim in Germany.
The ascent took about 7 mninutes and the return about 5. Good views and nobody else around this morning.
