Krister Åhlander

January 2000 till July 2001, I was post doc at the University of Bergen, at the Department of Informatics. Now I am back at the University of Uppsala, at the Department of Scientific Computing, where I did my PhD. Please visit my Uppsala home page

Post doc summary

I have worked primarily in the group led by Hans Munthe-Kaas and Magne Haveraaen, in the projects Coordinate free methods in numerics and Geometric integration for PDEs. Geometric integration involves integration methods that respect geometric properties. I was also involved in the Sophus project. All these projects illustrate the multi-disciplinary nature of scientific computing, by implementing abstract mathematical concepts, such as a coordinate free formulation of PDEs, with modern computer science technologies, such as algebraic specifications.

During the work in the projects above, I became specifically interested in software for tensors. In the EinSum project, I developed C++ support for index notation, including Einstein summation. I also included software for tensor symmetries.
