The B-52H
Air Combat Command's B-52 is a long-range, heavy bomber that
can perform a variety of missions. The bomber is capable of
flying at high subsonic speeds at altitudes up to 50,000 feet
(15,166.6 meters). It can carry nuclear or precision guided
conventional ordnance with worldwide precision navigation
capability. (USAF Fact Sheet)
I have gained a lot of knowledge about this particular aircraft
and did my very best to represent this awesome aircraft. There
may be a few places which just don't seem right. If you ever see
one, Please contact me and tell me where you think is wrong. I
will try to verify, and if possible fix in the next update.
Copyright
Please do no redistribute to anywhere unless I give permission to
do so. Please contact me if you have intentions to upload these
files to any site that these files weren't originally uploaded
to. I will give permission to do so in most cases with the
exception with
1. Commercial sites
2. Freeware sites that require you to become a member to
download files, and requires a fee to become
members.
In any case, I will say this again, DO NO REDISTRIBUTE UNLESS
I GIVE PERMISSION TO DO SO
With any case of redistribution, None of the contents may be edited or deleted without my prior permission to do so. None of the files in this package may be used with any other package unless I give you permission to do so.
Notes
Extra texture sets will be made available. These will mostly
be different squadron/aircraft repaints. They all come with
instructions to add them to your current set of textures.
If you ever wish to do a repaint, Please inform me of your
intentions.
4 different models are included. Please read this carefully.
The Bay doors can be opened by the use of Landing lights with
the condition that the Landing gear is NOT in the down (extended)
position.
Drag Chutes deploy with thrust reversers.
In addition, a different panel with many more functions will be
available. Check back at my site for updates. Highly recommended
for those who like flying with the panel.
Problems
A few problems still remain after all the Beta testing. Here
they are:
1. Outrigger animation does not represent the true retraction
sequence for the B-52. This is due to a limitation in AA.
2. Spoileron movement is wrong (Limitation in SDL edit and AA)
3. Flaps movement is a little off
4. Massive Pitch-Up when spoilers are deployed. I am checking
this out, but I cannot seem to fix it. If anybody can help me
with this, please contact me.
I consider this aircraft's visual model to be 90% authentic, with the last 10% being constrained by limitations in the design utilities currently used. I'll stress here that this aircraft has been tested by a "Flying Crew Chief" and "Our Pilot" so you can trust me on this plane ;)
The Flight Dynamics
The Flight Dynamics were designed using the 1% Jet Spreadsheet. While I did not make this air file to be truly 1%, It does feel and fly like a B-52. Tested by a former B-52 pilot and crew chief and by others who were lucky to fly the simulator, the Flight Dynamics are pretty accurate. BUFF tendencies to takeoff from the tail first, and strict COG management are all in. If you cannot seem to fly this BUFF, try lowering the realism settings.
The BUFF when loaded with ordnance does not takeoff very well. Real-world BUFFs only take fuel to takeoff and get to the tanker to fill up for a full tank of fuel before proceeding with the rest of the mission. In FS, you will have to manually add fuel by stopping FS. Otherwise, you can try taking off with a full load of fuel and ordnance, but be careful ;)
Future Versions
I am planning to edit the current B-52H to make a B-52D model.
This will take extensive research and a lot of rebuilding. It
will take time.
This is also something I had been planning to do, But I hope to
someday edit the current B-52H to give it break-off parts and
CFS2 Native key commands.
How to Support Me, and other Freeware Designers, and the
whole FS community
Building Freeware add-ons for FS is a very time consuming task
that takes a lot of effort. We do not ask for money, we do it
because it is our hobby to do so, and because it makes us feel
good when somebody comes along and says "Hey, The add-on you
made is really good!".
It is agreed that the 3rd Party-add ons are what made the
Microsoft Flight Simulator series such a success. Without them,
It's just a box full of bugs ;)
Here is what you can do to keep this hobby living and
continue to improve FS.
1. Whenever you find an Add-on that you like, drop the designer a
mail, saying "I liked it". It makes him feel real good
:)
2. Whenever you visit a free site managing hundreds, perhaps
thousands, of FS related files, click on the banners! It only
takes 10 secs to click and then close the window, and it keeps
those websites alive!
Do the above, as it's also for your own good :)
Hello fellow simmer! My name is Jason Peters. I am currently a
B-52H Crew Chief in the 11th Bomb Squadron USAF, And have
been for the last 4 years. My Jet is 61-011 "Dressed to Kill"
A few months
ago I stumbled upon Kotaro and his B-52H project while in its
early stages. Being a huge BUFF fan as you can imagine, I
contacted him as soon as I could and offered any help and
technical advice I could. After a few months
of I'm sure tireless work by Kotaro and many long nitpicky
E-mails from non other than me.. LOL I think its safe to say
we've come up with the most realistic B-52 ever offered for
flightsim. I myself am truly amazed! Never has this aircraft been
modeled so accurately. I'll tell you right now, I work this jet
for a living. I know every system, nut, and bolt on
this airplane. I also have 8 hours seat time in the real
aircraft and 4 in the sim. (Ain't it great to be a flying Crew
Chief?) This is as real as it gets right now folks! I'm sure
it will only get better, I plan on talking Kotaro into an
update.. hehe (He don't suspect a thing..LOL) I truly hope
you enjoy her as much as Kotaro, myself and I'm sure all the
other wonderful beta testers enjoyed re-creating her for you.

BRIEFING:
The aircraft you are about to fly is, perhaps, the most
accurately modeled combat bomber which anyone has designed for
Flight Simulator. Kotaro and the remainder of the eBeta'
testers have spend countless hours etweaking' this fine example
of a B-52H. It has been my pleasure to be part of this team
-- and as in any team, each member is only as important as the
next.
In the ereal world' the flight manual for a B-52 is over six
inches thick and crammed with more information than you can
possibly imagine. With FS we have many systems on the eBuff'
which, thankfully, we need not be concerned with. Our main
concern here is the flight characteristics of an unique aircraft,
which was purpose built back in the e50's' and still in service
today -- doing a outstanding job when other aircraft are soaking
up erays' in the boneyard.
If I could impress you with one item above all else it would be
esmooth'. If you compare aircraft to automobiles, a
727-200 would be a Ferrari and a B-52 would be a eGreyhound
Bus.'
Fully loaded, you will need a looooong runway, to get this bird
into the air. And, a loooong runway to put her down
safely. My experience in B-52's was mainly with the eD'
model, back in the Vietnam era, with over 202 combat missions
from Andersen, in Guam to, Vietnam. As an indication of
what we had to do with the eD's', during Linebacker II, we
carried more ordinance than the aircraft was designed for, and to
get the bird off the ground, we left base with enough fuel, plus
1/2 hour, to get to the tanker, and then on with the mission --
Tanker crews became your new, best friends. <G>
This aircraft will require full flaps, positive eup' trim and a
lot of real estate to become airborne. She lifts off, etail
first', (and that is how the real aircraft flies, [she has more
rear stabilizer than most fighters have wings]). She does
not climb like an F-15, nor does she maneuver like a 172.
There is a maneuvering envelope on this aircraft, so don't expect
her to circle a target at max speed, if you do, you'll need two
states to do a 360. Best maneuvering speed is between
230-270 knots.
Trim, trim, trim........Planning is perhaps, the ekey' word in
flying this aircraft. Expect 15-20 mile finals. When
handled with soft, smooth inputs, she will respond like
designed. Try to make a fighter out of this baby, and
she will hurt you and your crew!
Once airborne, with positive rate, get rid of the gear, (make
sure the bomb bay is closed), and start cutting your flaps.
Planning of flight, smoothness of input of the controls and close
attention to trim is essential. Use the spoileron's to slow
the aircraft.....deploy full spoilers upon touchdown and reverse
throttles....lots of brakes and . . . eventually, she will stop.
<G>. Use long approaches, small angles of
decent....and continue to practice.......smoothness. Now
give your Crew Chief, (the guy that makes you look good) the
thumbs up, a smart salute and get this puppy rollin!
