Easy way to align textures in gMax

Hi All!

I'm not sure if this is already known issue, but I desided to post it anyway...

A few days ago I was playing around (learning) with texturing in gMax. I had been having some difficulties to get my textures, that were only small parts of the whole bitmap, aligned right on the part. Then I suddenly had an idea and desided to try it...

I am trying to explain this with the picture attached to this post...

First, in PSP for example select the area that the texture takes from the whole bitmap and see the size of the selection. I have marked it with green in that picture (my selection is a part of the instrument panel). My selected area was 384 pixels wide and 128 pixels high. You can write down your own selections size if you think you don't remember it. Then check out the size of the whole bitmap (marked with red) which in my case is 512X512... Now comes the interesting part...

You can get EXACT values for those "U Tile" and "V Tile" options in gMax UVW Mapping preferences by dividing those sizes you got from PSP with the size of the whole bitmap. For example the "U Tile" is 384/512=0.75. So you enter 0.75 in that "U tile" -box. Then divide the selected areas height with the whole bitmaps height, which in my case would be like this: 128/512=0.25. So, enter 0.25 into that "V Tile" -box...

After this all you have to do is to move the "UVW Mapping/Gizmo" around until your area of the texture is in right place on your part...

For me it works like a charm and I don't have to play around with different "U Tile" and "V Tile" values anymore to get my textures right. But like I said, I don't know if you guys already use this method, but after all I felt pretty happy after figuring that out by myself. I hope it helps at least someone to get his textures right a bit easier...
