Well, I
have concentrated on making one wing with the purpose of
mirroring the structure and animations. Unfortunately this
was not as easy as I thought. I have tried hundreds of times
to get it right.
My question: have I been really stupid only thinking about
one wing, or is there a procedure for mirroring and making the
other wing?
Also, when I try to export a shabbily mirrored wing I get
the exporter error
---------------------- "node [name of all parts of the
wing] has a scale applied. Remove before
exporting" -----------------------
or ------------------ Generate
BGL... Done! Assembling:
D:\SPILL\FS2002\aircraft\a340\model\vinge_anim.azm D:\SPILL\FS2002\aircraft\a340\model\vinge_anim.asm(23985)

Joakim. Maybe I'm an idiot.

maybe this
helps Mirroring a wing
-1 make the righthand wing or the lefthand if you prefer
...
-2 hit the right mouse button, that opens the quad-menu
-3 under Transformations, select convert to: editable mesh
-4 in de modifier list (right on your screen, if not there
hit 3): -parametric modifiers: - Mirror
-5 in modifier stack: - expand mirror hit the
<+>-sign: -select: mirror center
-6 parameters: - mirror axis X (should be the along the
wing ) - options: Offset 0,0 - check Copy
-7 at the bottom of the screen: set Absolute mode
transform Type-In (toggle) set the X coördinate value to 0
You should find a perfectly mirrored copy in your Gmax
screen that you can export.
notes: 1. The set of mirrored wings are one object in
Gmax 2. Do not use this to mirror an aileron, those should
be different objects with different names to allow FS to
move them correctly. 3. If you have applied a rotation to
obtain dihedral you may need to counterrotate the mirror
center with the degrees of dihedral. The better way is to
apply the rotation with an Xform before the mirror operation
hope this helps
Luc

THANKS A
LOT, Luc!!! You're the man! (Thanks to you too, Skotten, I
saw you mentioned the mirror modifier as well)
That did it! I was about to give up. Seems like every time
I solve one problem another one turns up.
Joakim, sorry for asking stupid questions all the time!

fyi there
is another tool to mirror objects besides the mirror modifier.
look up on the toolbar and find the mirror command. you can
also look up mirror in the help file. notice that when you use
the mirror command you can choose what type of mirror to
create: a copy, reference, or instance. read up on the
difference between those things--they are very powerful
concepts.
also, to avoid any "strangeness" that can happen when you
export mirrored data, its a good idea to collapse the mirrored
objects down to editable mesh prior to export.
best, paul
