La Calavera

Season: Spring
Year: 1036
Location: south ofPyrrenees, near Andorra SG: Paul Williams (Drawswerd@aol.com) and Jon Key (enrbe@warwick.ac.uk)

La Calavera, who sits south of the Pyrenees AND would be in deep winter (having started in 1036) and may also have had a dying Praeco. They are a PbeM.

My saga 'The Need To Belong' has begun recently and is set in 1036 AD. I have planned the long term story arc of the saga so that the covenant in question, La Calavera, which is situated on the Iberian side of the Pyrenees near Andorra, sits in the Provencal Tribunal for the first 100 or so years before being forced to join the Iberian Tribunal around 1140/50 AD in a long running borders dispute between the two tribunals. The magi of La Calavera would not be so upset about this if it were not for the fact that they wish to remain neutral in the Reconquista, and harbour refugees from that conflict. The Iberian covenants want them to take sides though, and have executed a boundary change at the last Grand Tribunal and are trying to implicate La Calavera in the armed conflict so as to force them to take sides, preferably against the Moors.

By the time of 1193, the original magi will be very old, and I'm not sure that all will have survived. Magi who are 30 years old in 1036 will be 130 in 1136, and will possibly cling on in old age and be around in 1193. La Calavera is in Spring in 1036 and would probably only have entered Summer in 1100. For the purposes of your game I can run an alternate timeline so that they can be Summer, Autumn or Winter, or even reborn into Spring if the changeover from Provencal to Iberia proved very harmful. Whatever their power, they are still annoyed that they have been forcibly removed from Provencal and annoyed at attempts to involve them in the Reconquista, and these will be the main things that they want to bring up at the Tribunal.

I have cc'ed this email to my player, Jon Key, so that he can join in too if he wants to. we play our saga through email anyway, but very slowly (!), so I'm afraid we can't be really active and do loads of things, but it would be really interesting to be involved in what you suggest. If you want us involved, please email us and we'll rustle up a quickly accelerated 'future' for La Calavera & work out who would be sent & what they would do etc. at the Tribunal.

I'm really interested to gather more data on the Iberian Tribunal, and would like to find out what happens even if we don't end up participating. Also, I haven't looked very carefully on the redcap pages so didn't notice that many Iberian websites, and would be grateful if you could tell me which ones you have found.
