Gwyneth Jones is a writer and critic of science fiction and fantasy; she's been called the most exciting UK science fiction writer (The Guardian). Her novels, set in the future, exploring contacts between human and alien culture, have been nominated for the Arthur C. Clarke Award four times, the fourth time for North Wind (Gollanz, 1994). The first novel in the same series, White Queen, was co-winner of the James Tiptree Award for science fiction and gender issues, 1991.

Her new book about the Aleutians on earth, is called Phoenix Cafe, published in January 1997 by Gollancz. She is now working on a book about a woman scientist, in the very near futures, provisionally titled Differences.

Gwyneth Jones was born and educated in Manchester and went to Sussex University. Having spent some years in Singapore and South East Asia, she now lives in Brigthon with her husband, son and a fierce Burmese cat, writing and planning further tropical expeditions.
