But, I don't speak Norwegian!
Would this still be anything for me?
Yes! The two main program tracks will be in English.
Track 1 will be "serious" - writers, representatives
of academia and researchers from relevant fields will talk about and
debate issues related to "contact".
Track 2 will be "light" - with lots of room for speculation
and engaging discussions.
Track 3 will be the Norwegian-language track - after all,
InterContact is also the Norwegian con of 1998! There will be a film
track, and a B5 track. Being the great year of 1998, it is only
appropriate that Norway's B5 Alliance be represented at our
convention.
Activities
It's still early
days yet, but... We plan to have an open bar throughout the con, with
fannish activities going on down in the bar. We will see the return of
the Fannish Olympics. There will be a fashion show - instead of a
masquerade, parade down a catwalk! Live role playing, games, exhibits,
book sales, the traditional book auction, parties, theater, convention
dinner, awards ceremony.Costume Workshops
Starting January 1998, we will be hosting monthly costume workshops
for fans wanting to make a costume to bring to the con. These workshops
will be open to all attending members of the convention. More details
will be available in PR2.Creche
For
the "under fives", we will have a creche. More and more fans are
being brought into the world, and we want the whole family to come to
InterContact! Please let us know if you are bringing children to the
con, so we can organize fun activities for the kids.
Why Come To a Con in Norway?
If you went to Intersection, Evolution, or LACon III,
you'll know that Norwegian fans like to party! And Norwegian fans
are very sociable. Plus you don't have the language problems you have
in some other countries, where English isn't as widely spoken. You
can travel all over Oslo, and not need to learn a word of Norwegian.
Oslo in July is a beautiful city. With the con being a mere 10 days
after Midsummer's Eve, you can count on the sun shining til after
10 in the evening. The city is at its most festive, with all sorts of
activities - the Viking ships, the ruins of a Medieval monastery on an
island a short ferry ride away from the city center, hiking, movie
theaters... And July is a great time to go out for icecream!
Convention Site
The con will be held at the
University of Oslo campus, Blindern. The university campus is served by
trams, buses, and our combi subway/tram. The campus is about 7 minutes
from the city center by subway, and within walking distance of several
hotels. Gophering and program participation
We're going to need a solid team of gophers to help make
this as an exciting con as we plan. Please volunteer! If you tick off
the box for gopher duty, we'll do our best to get in touch with you
before the con actually begins. If you have any ideas for program
items, you can still let us know. The program is still at an early stage,
so any ideas are welcome.
Please contact either Cristina or Stefanie.
