Fencing Photographs

fen1a.gif - Epee Fleche (150 K) - Epee competition on June 22/94 at the Commonwealth Championships in Whistler, BC. The fencers are Shong (Canada) on the left vs. De Cori (Canada) on the right. IMHO, it's a classic epee action, Shong making a dig to the forearm on the fleche ... but getting stop-hit on the way in (check out the box over their heads). Shong went on to win the gold medal.

fen2a.gif - Sabre Stop Cut (235 K) - Patrick Tam (left, Canada) has just stop-cut Steve Werre (right, USA) and is now beating a hasty retreat. (The scoring box on the right shows that the stop-cut was successful and that the lunge is short.) Photo taken at the Stephen Lazar Memorial Tournament, Vancouver, Canada, February 1994.

fen3a.gif - Roach Killers (136 K) - Two foilists at the NAC#3 in New York City on April 23, 1994 try to kill a cockroach that has crawled onto the strip :-) Fencer on the right is David Waller of Canada; fencer on the left is unknown.

fen4a.gif - Epee Parry (160 K) - The photograph that finally proved that epee fencers can parry! ;-) Taken at the Commonwealth Championships, Whistler, BC, Canada, on June 22, 1994. Fencers are unknown (fencer on the left is from the Australian team).

fen5a.gif - Head Parry (124 K) - Shelly Wetterberg of the Canadian Women's Foil team demonstrates the team's dreaded secret thrust against Australia :-/. Taken at the Commonwealth Championships, Whistler, BC, Canada, on June 21, 1994.

fen6a.gif - Foil Fencers (76 K) - McClean (USA) vs. Bergeron (Canada) at the NAC#3 in New York City, April 23, 1994.

fen7a.gif - Saturday Night Fever (65 K) - Dave Mears (Canada) and Seth Talbot (USA) get down at the Stephen Lazar Memorial Tournament, Vancouver, Canada, February 1994.
