WG 2006 will take place on the island of Sotra close to the city of Bergen on the west coast of Norway. You can see some photos of Bergen and Sotra on our web site. Here is a regional map of Bergen and Sotra, and here is a map of Bergen center.
The conference will be held at Norlandia Marsteinen Hotel. The conference fee covers accommodation and all scheduled meals during the conference. We will provide free wireless Internet connection for all participants who bring their own portable computers that are equipped to benefit from this. There is a brochure about the hotel which has been renovated recently. The hotel is marked with 35 on the regional map.
For transportation to the hotel, we have direct buses from Bergen Airport Flesland (BGO) to the conference hotel on June 21. The departure hours of the buses are as follows: 12:00, 15:00, 17:00, 18:30, 23:00. We will have a welcoming desk at the airport on June 21; please look for the sign "WG 2006" and report to the welcoming desk when you arrive.
It is also possible to go to the center of Bergen using the public airport-city shuttle bus, and then take the regular public transportation bus to the location of the hotel. Once in the center of Bergen, take the bus number 450 - 459 from Bergen central bus terminal Busstasjonen and get out at bus stop Sund ungdomsskule ("X" in the bus schedule means that the bus goes there only if there are passengers); the hotel is at a few minutes walking distance from the bus stop (please ask the bus driver for instructions). The airport arrival information desk can help both with this and with alternative routes to the conference cite. There is also an information desk at the central bus terminal, and tourist information offices are helpful. The airport is marked with 23 and the central bus terminal in Bergen is marked with 29 on the regional map. On June 24, there will be three buses for departure from the hotel. Two buses for the airport leaving the hotel at 08:00 and 14:00, and one bus for Bergen city center leaving the hotel at 14:00.
If you would like to arrive in Bergen earlier than June 21, or leave later than June 24, we advise you to stay in Bergen city for the remaining nights outside the conference, as the island of Sotra does not offer many attractions other than beautiful nature, and public transport is very limited. Please make your own reservation directly with the hotel of your choice for the nights outside of June 21-23. Reasonably priced Bergen hotels are usually fully booked during summer, so it is a good idea to reserve early.
