INF359 - Assignment 2

By Stian Eikeland

I've created a volumeshop plugin for multi-modal visualization using a series of techniques such as DVR, MIP, cutting-planes, segmentation masks, etc..
One of the first things I did was to make a segmentation volume by loading the slices into photoshop and drawing over them using a tablet, took a while, and the result isn't that pretty, but it works fine for this purpose :) You can see a volume rendering of the mask below..

Below is a series of examples of renderings based on CT (for structural bones), PET (for activation coloring), MRI T1/T2 (for brain structure and slices)
By the use of cutting planes parts of the volumes have been selected for rendering, some semi-transparent (for context).. By using the segmentation mask, only the brain + eyes is rendered.

Experimenting with making the cutting border more smooth.. based on distance to cutting plane the alpha-value of bone is modulated..

Here also contours are applied, contours don't look that good here because of the low resolution dataset.. and also because of the cuts..

Different cutting planes.. Showing only PET over a certain activation value..

Now showing all modalities.. CT (bones), MRI T1 (structure), PET (color), MRI T2 (slice).

Now showing all modalities.. CT (bones), MRI T1 (structure), PET (color), MRI T2 (slice). This time with higher activation threshold.

Volume-slab..

CT for bones and CT for brain, colored by MIP from PET..

CT for bones and CT for brain, colored by MIP from PET.. More context..

CT for bones and MRI for brain, colored by MIP from PET..

Volume-slab (MRI T1 + CT + PET ) on top of slice (MRI T2)

Volume (MRI T1 + CT + PET ) on top of slice (MRI T2)

Volume-slab (MRI T1 + CT + PET ) with PET slice

Volume-slab (MRI T1 + CT + PET )
