How to get there:
One may access this mountain from the west and from the east side. The shortest
ascent is from the east with a trailhead at the ski resort La Ville. The city of Grenoble is
about 30 kilometer to the north. There is good parking at location N44.89223, E5.54778, elevation
about 1250 meter.
Route description:
The trail, quite wide, starts out
directly towards the mountain,
there is a downhill ski area on
your right. Do not follow the more horizontal road that heads out slightly more left. Follow this
good trail to the col at 1925m, named Pas de la Ville.
Before you arrive at this col, you have a good view up towards Veymont.
Take the trail that forks left and ascends
the ridge. Follow the trail, slightly steeper in the beginning,
then more flat and gentle
until you reach the summit. The summit ridge
has two high points, similar, but the
south end is likely the highest. (this is where the trail ends.)
Comments:
I started at 1050 and arrived at the summit after 1:45. Nice views, in particular
Mont Aiguille will catch your attention.
Le Grand Veymont summit is the highest point at the
end of a pretty long mountain ridge.
I descended after 10 minutes, in 1:15 back to my car.
