How to get there:
This mountain is the highest on the island Flores. A good starting
point is the town of Ruteng. From the center of town, drive uphill to
the trailhead
located at S8.630912, E120.456762. Elevation just below
1400 meter.
Route description:
Head directly uphill on a pretty overgrown trail. This trail may be difficult
to follow in places, it is marked with small stripes of fabric tied around
branches and trees. Higher up, this trail climbs slightly left (of steepest ascent line)
to reach a distinct ridge. Follow this ridge uphill, then eventually, traverse left
on a pretty distinct trail. Finally, head more or less directly uphill, the best
line is marked with "flags", but it may be hard to find. You will then top
out at the summit.
The summit has a sign attached to a fairly large tree.
Comments / Trip report:
We (Adam, På)l and me) flew from Bali to Komodo Airport, Badjo on Flores island,
then found a driver that could stay with us for the next 10 days.
We drove to Ruteng and after a nice dinner, slept well until 0500.
Our driver picked us up at 0530 and drove to the trailhead. We started
just as daylight came at 0600.
The trail was quite overgrown and this got worse as we ascended. Temporarily, we clearly
lost the trail and did some bushwack. Higher up, when the ridge became more distinct,
we were again on a trail, but after following this horizontally on a traverse, we ended up
with a second bushwack, this time directly uphill to the summit.
We arrived at 0830, 2.5 hours up. Not much to see or do among the trees up here.
We left after a 15 minute break and descended along a path that likely should be the trail.
There were many "flags", small bands attached to branches and trees. We were back
down by 1100, not very impressed about this mountain.
