How to get there:
This mountain is north-west of the resort town La Clusaz. There is good parking at location N45.92298, E6.38724, elevation around 980 meter.
Route description:
The route is well sign-posted all the way. You start by turning the corner of the farm building near the parking area. You will then see a sign and a trail that heads uphill. The trail then turns left and soon joins a rough forest road that continues to climb. There are signs at forks, the summit is called Croix du Lachat. You will pass some local buildings quite high up, then climb through the upper forest. The route is (YDS) class 1 until you leave the forest. The last, upper part of this route has short sections that qualifies as class 2. There is a pretty long traverse where the trail gains elevation, then a short somewhat steeper section before you arrive at the summit with a large cross.
Comments:
We stayed in Megeve and I left shortly after breakfast, while Heidi wanted to explore the town. Start from the parking area at 1015. It was a very hot day and hard work to walk uphill under the sun. I took a brief rest in the last shade (last trees) before entering the final, more open terrain. I still arrived at the huge cross on the summit at 1215.
A slight breeze as well as some clouds made it a nice place to rest. Good view across to the characteristic Pointe Percée, that I climbed in July 2007. I did however, see some rain coming from the south, thus I decided to start my descent around 1250. A few drops of rain did indeed arrive, but not much and only for about 15 minutes. I came back to my car at 1405.
