How to get there:
One may access this mountain from the west and from the east side. The shortest ascent is likely from the east as described here.
First, locate the intersection between Hwy. D-32A and D-32B about 35 kilometer (straight line distance) south of the city Annecy (in France). Drive 630 meter from this location along D-32B (east) then take the road left (signed as a dead end road). Keep left at location 45.62663, 6.12866, then find a large parking area at location N45.62717, E6.121304, elevation about 1160 meter. Park here.
Route description:
Take the dirt road, a typical forest road, that heads uphill. There are several minor forks, always take the road that runs most uphill and still looks like it is being (frequently) used. There may be a sign saying Col de la Cochette, this is where you should go. (This col is near 1850 m of elevation, the forest road crosses the main (south) crest of the mountain here.
Exactly as the road turns right in this col, a small trail forks right and follows the ridge to the summit.
Comments:
We were driving from Champex-Lac in Switzerland towards Gap in France, passing through Chamonix, then going just south of Annecy. This peak was a good break along the way. I started at 1210, reached the col in 45 minutes and the summit after 1:15. Good weather and quite many people on the peak, but few on my forest road route. Great views, in particular to Mont Blanc. I rested 10 minutes, then descended back down to my car in 50 minutes.
Heidi did a nice hike exploring the lower forest roads going more north-east, while I visited the peak.
