How to get there:
This mountain is located near the valley Numedal, on its east
side, where the valley makes a distinct bend. The location is north
of the village Veggli, near the southern end of the lake
Kravikfjorden.
Locate the road Vergjedalsvegen forking east from Hwy. 40 at location
N60.084471, E009.114245. Drive this road about 4 kilometer, where there
is a clear road-fork. Go left, across a bridge and about 400 meter from
this fork, a smaller road turns sharly left. In winter, this is the
trailhead, location N60a12024, E009.12432, elevation about 420 meter.
In summer, this road may provide access to Skagssetre, this would be a much
shorter hike. There is also a trail from the north that may provide good
access in the summer, but it has not been checked out.
Route:
From the trailhead, go west, then south-west as you ascend the hillside
directly towards the local poit marked 936m, at the map. The terrain is
rugged near the top and one should keep a bit right before ascending the
final slope to the main summit.
Comments:
I had driven from Geilo where the traditional eScience winter-school had
just ended. We had then had 4 days at Geilo with temperatures around 5-6
Centigrade, really unheard of in mid January. The snow cover in this mountain region
of Norway is thinner than I can ever remember. Almost no snow along roads and
on farms and hillsides. When I parked at the trailhead, it became obvious that
this climb would be on foot - skiing was out of the question.
I left around 1200 and walked uphill. The terrain was not bad and I quickly made
the summit plateau area. Here it became obvious that there were several small
tops and that the terrain up here was indeed quite rugged. However, I soon discovered
a reasonable approach and made the summit around 1400, 2 hours.
Surprisingly good views all around. This quite unknown top commands a pretty large
area around. I spent about 10 minutes before beginning my descent. The return hike
took 1:10, with arrival back down by my car at 1520.
I next drove to Blefjell, my plan was to stay overnight at the DNT-hut Sigridsbu.
