How to get there:
Drive E-16 to Evanger, this is before you get to Voss, the exit left is across a narrow characteristic bridge. Continue towards Eksingedalen. Just as the road starts climbing, leave the road (the road curves left), ie. go straight, this direction is signed Brekkhus. Measure from here. Continue through the farm Brekkhus and keep going straight. You will enter a mountain road that climbs into a nice valley, including 2 tunnels. After 11.8 kilometer, you are close to lake Volavatnet. Park on a signed parking area. Due to construction, this parking was off to the left in 2021. It may be slightly higher up on a more permanent basis. I parked at location N60.74905, E006.27017, elevation about 880 meter.
Route description:
Locate the T-marked trail to Volahytten. This trail runs on the north side of the lake. From the trailhead above, this involves crossing the river (on stepping stones). The trail traverses in the hillside opposite of the road. You should follow this trail to north-west, ie. in the opposite direction of the Volahytten DNT-hut. Higher up, you cross the small river twice. Follow this trail almost to the col, elevation near 1100 meter. From here, go left and find a reasonable route up the mountain. The summit is marked by a very small cairn (a few rocks only).
Comments:
The weather was misty and clouds all over as I drove up the nice mountain road. However, there were signs of a change for the better. I started at 1145 and by noon ths sun was about to break through. I ascended some steepish snow, it was hard and I should have had my axe and crampons. After a careful ascent, I certainly decided to find another way back down. I arrived at the summit at 1250. Nice and sunny with good views. I rested and enjoyed the scenery until 1310. Descending slightly more north was easier than my route of ascent. Back at my car by 1400.
